Already established as probably the best accommodation in the city, praise has been heaped upon The Residence by guests and reviewers alike. Don’t just take our word for it, visit the links on the main site and see what The Guardian, The Observer and Conde Nast Traveller thought about us. Then check out what the most important people think about us – our guests.
Until recently The Residence remained a secret to all but those who stayed, however, a new license means we can now open our doors to a select few who can enjoy the luxurious facilities and the ambience of this five star home from home.
Membership is made up of like-minded people, who know their food and their wine, enjoy socialising and have a penchant for good living.
Joining The Residence Club Café entitles you to use our first class facilities for private meetings, social gatherings or as somewhere to escape to after a tiring day at work, between school drop-off and pick up, or simply when escape is necessary.
Facilities available to members include the library, the club lounge, the conservatory bar, the private dining room and the restaurant, which currently opens for fine dining on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
A treatment spa will open shortly and members will have access to our steam and sauna rooms. In the summer, boules and croquet are available in the beautiful Italianate garden, which also features a cosy summerhouse and sun loungers under the pergola.

Q. How can I join The Residence Club Café?
A. Apply on line via the Club Cafe Application Form or ring 01225 750180 and ask for a form to be mailed to you. Please bear in mind that all applications must be proposed and seconded by existing members of the Club and are subject to approval by the Membership Committee.
Q. How much does membership cost?
A. Membership is £150 per year and there is no joining fee. Corporate memberships are also available at £75 per membership (subject to a minimum of three people joining).
Q. Can I bring guests to Club Café?
A. Yes, though you are normally limited to four per visit and they cannot visit on more than four occasions within a three month period. For business meetings, meals and other special functions arrangements can be made for additional guests, by ringing 01225 750180. However at least 24 hours notice must be given and there is no automatic entitlement.
Q. Can I bring my partner to the Club?
A. Of course, but after several visits they may be invited to join the Club Cafe in their own right.
Q. What hours is the Club Café open?
A. The Club is open for breakfast from 7,30am and remains open until 1am when all members are asked to leave.
Q. What are the benefits of membership?
A. Many. The only other people who are allowed to use any of our facilities are hotel guests. Your membership gives you access to all the ground floor rooms, as well as allowing you eat in our restaurant and drink in our bar. In the coming months we will be adding a treatment room and you will also be able to use the steam room and sauna.
Q. Can I hold a private or corporate function at the Club?
A. Small events can be catered for – the restaurant could be booked out on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our private dining room is available at all times for up to 12 people and other rooms can be booked individually by prior arrangement. However, we have to put our members first and therefore we have reserved only six days a year for the club to be closed for special occasions such as weddings.
